    How can this go on and on????

  2. Morgan Griffith says:

    Thank you for posting these Laura. It’s one thing to read about this but another thing to be able to see it.

  3. sandra longley says:

    Laura, do we need more people out there?

  4. Thanks Craig and Laura. Be well, be safe. love, mar

  5. The processing being done so fast again just shows how badly BLM wants the horses off the range and made ‘non returnable’ which we will have t challenge at some point just because all of this is begun on a non scientific basis.

    Range Management Plans… mar

  6. jan eaker says:

    I hate to see all these beautiful horses, this is just so stupid and cruel and a waste;

  7. Robin Bailey says:

    This is blatant animal cruelty! How can we stop this? And why aren’t our elected officials doing anything? The letter was a good start, but they need to show up at the roundups and really raise their voices against this!

  8. My fantasy (and by now we have all had some) is; Arnold and or Maria come to the roundup and stride out to talk to a BLM person and the contractor is called over and there are words and the crew turns and shuts down and the roundup is called to an end. Governors do have power over actions in their states that violate state laws. Arnie, can you make a girl’s dreams come true? “Action Hero Stops Roundup” mar

  9. jan eaker says:

    Happy Endings for 2 Calico horses! check out terri farley’s blog about Ghost Dancer and SAge’s journey to their new home, needed to see this after this horrid day.

    • cat Kindsfather says:

      It was needed soul food to be there at the sanctuary, much different from the prisons of BLM corrals. Great fun to watch Ghost dancer and Sage entering their new homeland. They will be turned out from their corral in about a week, to run free on five thousand acres. Wish more could have this comfort zone. New sanctuaries needed as many are just too full now to accept more horses. Praying for Madeleine’s new land to work out for the mustangs, in conjunction with BLM.

      • jan eaker says:

        Cat, thanks so much for the pictures, it was good to see them safe, I can’t wait for the pictures when they get their freedom.
        I too hope there is some good from MP’s land purchase, and also, am hoping the Soldier Meadows project is not dead.

  10. Cindy says:

    and Arnie says to the BLM in his bad a$$ accent and his best terminator voice…”it’s OVER!”

    we NEED the Governator!!

  11. Cindy says:

    yanno it IS as though..they know at any moment SOMEone is going to stop them…so they are gathering as many as possible..as quickly as possible.

    so true; so true; the BLM knows “their time is coming to an end; so they are frantically trying to roundup as many as can

    I am just waiting for the BLM to “trip themselves up again…aw

  13. Phyllis says:

    How is it that these animals are so mistreated during these round-ups, when they keep telling us that they are well cared for! Just what happend no know one is there to watch our for these innocent animals. Who only hours were happy, and grazing free with their bands…Oh what we do in the mane of protection.

  14. Anna says:

    Thanks much to Craig Downer for the Pix of the Twin Peaks Ca roundup; the roundups are all so similar; the BlM goes out into remote areas of land and looks for Mustangs to get…

    Its like “A War against the Mustangs; instead of protection !

    if you enlarge the above pix by pressing the pix; you can see the injuries better; looks just like the other roundups !
    Animals get injured and the blm does not treat them…

    Why doesn’t the Blm set up sancturaries; god knows they have the land to set up sanctuaries…buncha foolish hooligan
    (god i hate the blm…)

  15. cat Kindsfather says:

    Arnold, You have always been the hero. We need you now! Sara and John are waiting for you at Twin Peaks…. :p

    FINAL STATS OF THE CALICO ADOPTION / SALE INTERNET:

    Notice BLM:
    The Calico Internet adoption has concluded. 12 sale age horses were offered for sale to good homes and all 12 were purchased. 92 horses were offered for adoption and 73 were adopted. Selected animals are being distributed to their adopters and purchasers.

    THIS MEANS ONLY 85 MUSTANGS OUT OF 1,800+ WERE ADOPTED OR FOUND HOMES OR RESCUES;

    the BLM has 1,800 Calcio Mountain Mustangs in holding; and another large herd from Tuscarora in holding…

    and they do not have places for these Mustangs yet…and yet they keep rounding them up…WHERE WILL THE BLM PUT ALL THESE MUSTANGS; they are off course the blm is

    and one of these days their ship is going to go off course!

  18. Anna says:

    I guess what bothers me most about the BLM Wh & Burro is:

    besides the obvious which is the stress; new hay; Corrals; etc.

    is THE BLM DOES NOT RETURN ANY GELDINGS TO THE RANGE

    the BLM says: no scientific studies have ever proven that
    Geldings reduce the Mustang populations…

    Have you ever heard of anyone saying anything that dumb?

    be like saying: Absitenance has not been proven to prevent Aids; or be like saying; Absitance does not prevent fertility;

    be like saying: Geldings might not prevent overpopulation;

    huh? GELDINGS DO NOT INCREASE MUSTANG POPULATIONS

  19. Anna says:

    There is no scientific evidence that gelding is effective as a birth control measure in the wild…

    This blasphemous ridiculous statement was made by both the BLM and the HSUS…

    ha ha ha…what a joke; any fool knows; Geldings don’t “reproduce; they never did and they never will…Anne W.

  20. Anna says:

    notice: from what I have been reading and understanding; the BLM does not return ANY Geldings to the range;

    how stupid is that ? dumbfounding the bureau of lying manics

  21. Anna says:

    so in 25 years; not one gelding has been returned to the range?

    Only Stallions (ungelded and highly fertile) are returned to the range ? (and some Mares treated with birth control and some Mares not treated with birth control?

    So the BLM puts Stallions and Mares into the herd; YET NO GLEDINGS…why? to breed them for the next gather in 2 or 3 years; then say: my gosh where did all these Equine appear from: gee I wonder; could it be the BLM “breeds the Mustangs on public lands by adding Stallions and unfixed Mares back to the herds of unfixes mares/stallions
    BLM=BREEDINGS LOTTA MUSTANGS…for the next “gather…
    I SAY RETURN THE GELDING TO THE PUBLIC LANDS TODAY

  22. Anna says:

    ROFL…

    THE BLM SAYS THEY MIGHT CONSIDER A TRIAL OF ADDING GELDINGS BACK TO THE RANGE IN THE FUTURE…

    MIGHT CONSIDER A TRIAL OF GELDINGS ON THE RANGE?

    has anyone besides me ever heard of anything so stupid as

    A blm .gov agency show says they want to “slow the population growth of the herds;

    YET THEY NEVER PUT GELDINGS BACK; ONLY STALLIONS…

    do these people know that a gelding cannot breed ? they could not be so dumb and stupid as to not know that…

    could they ? its possible the blm does not know Geldings do not breed; judging from every other comical act…

    like leaving hope the foal in a sandpit for three days…(with no hay; medicine blanket or water ! remember the downed mare: I just feel so sorry for the mustangs and burros; who were standing out in a field yesterday…since birth…and today are penned up; tagged up; shaved and tatooed; sorted into pens separated from foals and families; Jesus !

  23. Anna says:

    As for the BLM adding Breeding Stallions to the Range; instead of returning Gelded (Stallions); to the HMA’s

    Just adding one Stallion to an HMA can produce how many foals a year; so the BLM added 26 breeding stallions to the Tuscarora HMA after the roundup was concluded; so that is about 250 extra foals a year X 4 = 1,000 extra foals from the 26 extra Stallions the BLM adds to the HMA after roundup

    let me ask you a question: if you were trying to reduce the population of a herd of animals would you
    ADD BREEDING MALES TO THE HERD
    OR ADD NON BREEDING MALES TO THE HERD

    answer if you want to reduce the population of a herd of animals YOU ADD NON BREEDING GELDINGS TO THE HERD

    So why does the BLM ADD STALLIONS to the HMA’s herds?

  24. Anna says:

    so in conclusion if

    the BLM puts 250 Stallions a year into the HMA areas; and if one stallion can produce 10 Foals a year;

    250 x 10 = 2.500 Foals

    well there you go; there is your reason for the roundups

    BLM breeds mares with stallions then sells them online (or adopts them out…HEY ONLY 85 MUSTANGS OUT OF 1,922 GOT ADOPTED AT CALICO; 118 died and 12 got sold; 72 got adopted; only 72 out of 1.922 actually got adopted >

    so where the ^&%$ is the BLM going to put 12,000 Stangs?

  25. Anna says:

    THE TWIN PEAKS BLM SAYS:

    How does BLM balance wild horses, burros with livestock management?
    Overall, livestock use in the HMA has declined by 61 percent over the past 50 years. Currently, under the 2008 plan, BLM authorizes up to 3,700 cattle and 10,000 sheep to use the allotment during specified times throughout the year.
    Forage is allocated by Animal Unit Months or AUMs. An AUM is the amount of forage
    consumed in a month by an adult horse, a mare and foal, two burros, an adult cow or cow and calf, or five sheep.
    Under the plan, 22,481 AUMs are allocated annually for cattle and 10,000 AUMs for sheep. Wild horses and burros are allocated 5,808 to 9,792 AUMs based on the range of AML numbers.
    Cattle have used about 11,498 AUMs, or 50% of their authorized allocation annually over the last 10 years and sheep have used about 2,940 AUMs or about 30%. Wild horse and burro use has increased annually to 24,228 AUMs in 2009.

  26. Anna says:

    blm page quote:
    Where is the herd and what is special about these animals? The Twin Peaks Wild Horses and Burro Herd roams over about 789,852 acres of public and private lands in Lassen County, California, and Washoe County, Nevada. The BLM manages 656,173 acres of the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area (HMA).
    The HMA provides forage and habitat for wild horses and burros as well as wildlife, including the greater sage-grouse, pronghorn, and the East Lassen mule deer herd.
    The HMA also contains many important biological, geological, scenic, recreational, and cultural resources.
    The other predominant land uses within the HMA are livestock grazing, wilderness recreation, and general recreation, including hunting.
    The Twin Peaks wild horses are descendants of introduced Spanish horses, local ranch horses and cavalry mounts. In the 1860s, 500 Spanish horses were brought up from San Diego. Their descendants were captured and served as mounts in the Boer War, the Spanish-American War, and World Wars I and II. Over the years, local residents improved the herd quality by culling horses with undesirable traits and introducing horses with desirable traits, resulting in today’s unique and striking Twin Peaks wild horses.
    What needs to be done to maintain this herd?
    To maintain a healthy Twin Peaks herd and to restore or maintain the rangelands in a healthy condition, the BLM plans to gather enough horses and burros to restore the population to a level that can be sustained in balance with the other uses described above.
    Through a land use planning effort in 2008 that included full public involvement, the BLM determined the appropriate management level (AML) to be 448-758 horses and 72-116 burros in the HMA. However, the current population is estimated at 2,300 horses and 200 burros, an overpopulation resulting in ongoing damage to the rangelands.
    Under the 1971 Wild, Free-roaming Horse and Burro Act, when this occurs, BLM is required to “remove excess animals” to “restore a thriving ecological balance to the range.”
    BLM plans to gather as many of the total population as possible (2,300 horses and 200 burros), remove an estimated 1,855 excess wild horses and 103 burros, and return to the range an estimated 450 horses and 72 burros in the HMA to achieve ecological balance.
    Twin Peaks Herd Management Area
    Of the animals to be returned to the range, mares would receive fertility control vaccine, and more stallions than mares would be returned to slow the growth of the herd.
    The animals removed will be offered for adoption through the BLM’s wild horse and burro adoption program, or placed in long-term holding pastures

  28. Anna says:

    THIS IS THE JACKASS BLM WHO WROTE:

    Of the animals to be returned to the range, mares would receive fertility control vaccine, and more stallions than mares would be returned to slow the growth of the herd.

    key line: and more stallions than mares would be returned to slow the growth of the herd…

    ANNE’S ANSWER: HEY DUMBOS BLM PEOPLE; STALLIONS DO NOT SLOW THE GROWTH OF THE HERD…

    STALLIONS ARE THE FACTOR WHICH “GROWS THE HERD !

    So by adding a greater number of Stallions to the herd will increase the Herd…even if the Mares get birth control…

    because i do not think the birth control actually works…AW
    then they top of their foolishness by saying: The Mustangs will be “adopted or pastured; not saying Mustangs get sold!
    BLM=Breeding Lotta Mustangs (for the next gather heh heh

  29. Anna says:

    onclusion:

    the twin peaks gather is different from the other gathers; Calico and Tuscarora because they did not round up every Mustang; but at the Twin Peaks; they plan to round up EVERY MUSTANG and then put back about 500 of the Mustangs

    because the BLM thinks they know which ones to put back to breed the best Mustangs for the next gather in a few yrs.

    I DO NOT THINK THE BLM CAN TOP MOTHER NATURE’S NATURAL SELECTION…

    in fact; forced breeding and fiddling with the natural selection actually creates inferior animals;

    like breeds of Dogs; who have genetic deficiencies; such as
    some pug dogs have respitory prob. due to genetic breed;

    LEAVE THEM ALONE LET THEM BE; MOTHER NATURE RULES!

  30. Anna says:

    CONCLUSION:

    I conclude the BLM “overbreeds mustangs puposely in the wild by adding Stallions to the unfixed Mares…

    then saying: too many mustangs gotta get a mil to round up !

    BLM should set up Preserves Reservations Sanctuaries;

    HMA’s will never work; the blm is too corrupt for HMA”s…aw

    BLM Open File Report 122 • September 2009
    Abundance and Run Timing of Adult Salmon in the Tozitna River, Alaska, 2007

    European
    notation (Koo 1962) was used to record the ages. A holding pen (6 m × 2 m) was constructed adjacent to the trap, and after sampling,
    fish were transferred and held for 0.5 hours. The holding pen allowed sampled fish to
    recover in an area out of the main current.

    Comment: Golly; the BLM builds “holding pens and traps…

    for Salmon ! says: “the holding pen allowed sampled fish (Salmon) to recover out of the main (river) current…

    wow you could almost substitute the words: Mustangs or Burros…ie the holding pen allowed rounded up (equines…
    to recover out of the general population…BLM “Trappers !
