These horses rely on their band structure for survival. It is always so hard to watch them loose their homes and the comfort of family. Yet even in the most trying of times they are so incredible to behold. The comfort they give to each other as they struggle with lameness from the round…. just sharing a few images from today.
I’ll look for some of the ones I took when they were free last Spring…

The BLM is hosting an observation day at the Indian Lakes Road Holding Facility with guided tours offered from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. These hours are the most likely times that trucks will be delivering the wild horses from the gather site. The BLM continues to provided guided tours of the facility by appointment only. Appointments are necessary to ensure BLM staff is available to conduct the tours and respond to questions, and for safety concerns for the animals, observers and employees at the facility. The Indian Lakes Road facility is privately-owned and operated. The BLM coordinates closely with the owner when scheduling the guided tours to allow observers to view the animals, while not interferring with the day-to-day operations at the facility.
Windbreaks are installed in the hospital pens. Two 12-year-old mares in poor condition and not adapting to change in feed were euthanized.

Its a wonder any foals survive in the crush of the big bodies slamming around them..I always hold my breathe in those momments..will find out how much control I really have soon, quite frankly I don’t really want to go…but have to…would rather spend the day having my arm sawed off with a butter knife.

Thank you to all who are working to stop the decimation in this wonderful HMA. I have a Twin Peaks mustang and while I LOVE her more then any horse I’ve ever had, to know that only 450 will be returned, and hand picked by humans rather then God, I just cry, and cry. This is a HUGE HMA.. did I say HUGE? and not one that can not support many horses, it surely can. They usually only take about 800-900 horses, and gather it regularly.. So that they now need to gather 2000 makes no sense. If the horses are REALLY doubling in 4 years they shouldn’t need to be taking many horses over 4 off the range. And the mules? What are they hurting? They aren’t reproducing. Last Twin Peaks gather they pulled in mules as well. I heard one of them was 16 y/o! Why would you need to gather a 16 y/o wild born mule?? It’s ridiculous, and frustrating.

Anne’s comment: I hear ya’; the BLM intends to round up every single Mustang and most Burros and then return about 450 “hand picked man made selection…instead of Mother Nature’s Natural Selection; thinking they will be able to raise a super breed of Wild Mustangs…and to leave only 72 Burros on such a great expanse of land…oh; so the BLM has been rounding up the Mustangs reguarly? thanks…
