Together Forever…

General and Crew

Just a few photos I’ve been saving.

General, Commander and True are among the horses Return to Freedom will give sanctuary to. The boys will stay together…

My True Boy

Best Friends

I love these guys.

So much to do… so much heartache… but this makes it so much more bearable.

UPDATE COMING SOON!

Trying…

Trying my best.

I have spent over a week trying to get access to any of the activity in Tuscarora. Owyhee is over and went without witness. Little Humboldt is over with one day of observation (sort of). Rock Creek is under way, so far one day of any type of observation. Much less than in the past.

Observation? 7/24

There are many rumors out there including folks claiming they are in on the case. Any “donate” button on their website linked to a legal fund will not go to the appropriate place. Grass Roots Horse is the only place to assist that effort.

I will write up what I have seen, and the convoluted way I came to see it, soon.

In the meantime know I am trying…

Return to Freedom is going to step in and take the stallions. They are now heading the effort!

Donate there and mark “Calico Stallions!”

I will transfer any thing received to them.

Give us all a minute to respond to you .

Still navigating a few bumps.

Most of them on my head…

I WAS SET TO ADOPT 1045 “LEGACY” BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A PLACE WHERE HE CAN STAY AROUND RENO. IF YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO COULD KEEP THIS LITTLE HORSE FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS PLEASE LET ME KNOW. AT PRESENT I AM IN THE PROCESS OF RELOCATING IN RENO. IF I DON’T FIND A PLACE I CANNOT ADOPT HIM. I DON’T WANT “LEGACY” TO GO THROUGH ANY MORE TORTURE THAN HE HAS. PLEASE CALL ME. (818)899-1862.

Hang in there…

Hang in there…

I’m trying my best to deal with the convoluted path we all know so well when dealing with this agency known as the Bureau of Land Management.

We all know too well the lack of avenues that are clear to hold this system to any standard of accountability for their actions. But I’m trying…

You are all ammazing. Please know that I recognize each effort. There are people that have sent GrassRootsHorse $3.00 donations… because that’s all they had… to help me bring this forward. This really is about how much the American people love these horses and are willing to devote “all they have” to see that the intent of ’71 Legislation is not subverted because of some “highest bidder” thought process present in today’s government.

This country was based on principles to safeguard right of “the people,” not just the “rich” people.

As we fight for the voiceless, our amazing wild horses that stand as a symbol of that bravery and freedom, we create our own voice.

Please keep calling the White House hotline:

Calico Internet adoption

Please know that this information is flexible…

Stallions going to Return to Freedom.

You can go to their website to help that effort.

I am not spearheading the mares. That information should be coming soon.

As with ANY auction event there are unknowns that may change the horses that are pulled…

If you don’t see a bid on a horse on our list it is because we may be waiting to place a bid….

WE LOVE YOU!

Calico Horses

This past winter wild horses were gathered from the Calico Complex in Nevada. This roundup was one of the deadliest in recent BLM history.

The horses in this roundup have been some of the most comprehensively documented from roundup through adoption event. Many of these horses that were virtually unknown have now become dear to the public that knows some of their stories and names.

Elyse Gardner and Laura Leigh are attempting to facilitate placement of many of these beautiful horses.

Return to Freedom and Dream Catchers have stepped up to give many of these horses a safe haven where they can be as free as we can help them remain. Several people have come forward that can take in a couple and train them toward adoptive homes in a foster situation.

If you are interested in helping with this effort and desire more information please contact:

elysegardner@me.com

laura@barndoorstudio.com

This list is subject to change as bidding progresses. It is our intention to sanctuary or home as many of these horses as possible. If you are bidding on a horse, or know someone that is, please let us know so we do not bump heads in bidding.

Please let your “fellow bidders” know the horses we are working on to avoid the same confusion.

If you see a horse drop from our list it is because it has found a private bidder. You may see horses added to the list (priority to sale authority) as space opens up.

Again, to be perfectly clear: The Sale authority Stallions are the core group list that will not change. Please do NOT bid on those horses and discourage anyone else from doing so. We have found a sanctuary situation for them so they can be as free as we can provide for them….

The core mares are also horses we are committed to providing that manufactured freedom to….

PLEASE know that all the sale authority horses are on our list as well. We will add them as safe places for them to land come forward and solidify.

YES we are working on sanctuary situations for a bunch of these horses.

The sale authority horses have special priority…

Many of the younger horses are also on the list.

A few of these have individual homes that have stepped up and some we will attempt to place in sanctuary.

It’s 2 am and I need to be up at 6… I will post the specifics about our effort as soon as I clear the desk of paperwork.

But if you are thinking of making space in your life for a wild horse I urge you to get your application in asap.

G’night… yawn.

A poem by Rob Pliskin

Sharing a poem by Rob Pliskin I received as I have morning coffee….

No More Lost and Found

BLM’s killing horses just tryin to be free

Runnin them from Rock Creek, Little Humboldt and Owyhee

Towards a tragic future of captivity or death

While most Americans don’t even know and others hold their breath

And some unlikely heroes save 174

Pay for them in Fallon and help them find the door

Because this weekend they’d been in The Killer’s Lost and Found

Where they were just wild horses who went for 20 cents a pound

They said The Seven died because the tank was nearly dry

I’d say check the fences because fences never lie

Cattle drink and come to water to me it don’t make sense

When horses end up dying on the wrong side of the fence

And eyes like satin stars on coats of red white blue and brown

Don’t make no difference to blind men paying 19 cents a pound

All we’re trying to provide’s a simple place to stand

Where all creatures live in balance but it takes a gentle hand

With all of us on every side good neighbors we can be

Its good neighbors make good fences, that means us, yes, you and me

Cause we no longer want to hear that high and lonely sound

Of ghosts of horses whinnying at 19 cents a pound

So if you’ve got mettle in your heart and basically agree

That if cows and oilmen can wander horses too can wander free

Put it in your boots and go do something good today

We can help the horses all together find the way

If you have that extra penny stick it under your hat band

Screw your hat down on your head go out and make your stand.

Because G-d’s writing in the tally book and needs help getting it all down

That wild horses’ weight is gold, not 19 cents a pound.

Update…(s)

Quick update:

Fallon Horses saved this past weekend through an amazing cooperative effort spearheaded by Lifesavers.

Incredible example of what can be accomplished when this amazing group of advocates focuses! Lets keep sharpening each other, supporting each other and focus on those incredible beings… our horses.

WE ARE organizing the Calico adoption event.

Right now things are being arranged as discreetly as possible.

If you want to help CalicoFreedom@gmail.com is both contact and paypal.

The effort is growing daily and has “safety” situations that involve wonderful folks like Return to Freedom and Dream Catchers.

Specifics will be made available asap.

Many of the horses on the Inet page would be great project horses for personal use. If you want any info on any of these wonderful animals I would be glad to answer any questions.

Many of you know that I had a bit of a personal emergency that has slowed me down… but not by much. But I ask your patience in awaiting my responses.

Yes, I did file for the horses in Tuscarora. The suit is public record now.

Pray….

Love you all.

Silent Vigil (Rob Pliskin)

Today a friend and wild horse advocate will make a solitary, silent stand for our wild ones.

Rob Pliskin will begin a silent vigil in his current home town.

His idea is born of frustration. This frustration is shared by so many that I have been speaking with. This frustration has given rise to this statement.

This week, despite thousands of comments and requests by Americans throughout the country and pleas by informed and concerned wildlife scientists, the BLM in its “Summer Season of Discontent” is rounding up and removing American wild horses from their home ranges.  Horses the BLM is ironically mandated to protect, including foals days or weeks old, will be killed or injured.  Family bands scattered.  Herds decimated.

The horses have no voice, no say in this.  There will be hooves striking rocks, sweat flying off summer coats, and wide eyes seeking escape.  Heads will be hung in the desolation of capture and captivity.  But there will be no voices.

As a 12 year volunteer for the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program, and as an American, I can no longer abide this.   With a degree in Natural Resources and the heart of a citizen, I believe it is unjust.  I believe the arbitrary use of “Appropriate Management Level” as it stands now is just one of the cowardly acts perpetrated on the horses and on all Americans.

So I am standing up for all these horses.   I am beginning a Silent Vigil, outside the Federal Building closest to my home in Cleveland, Ohio.  Silent, because the horses have no voice.   Close to home, because today Americans can stay close to home and have a strong voice.  America’s wild horses can’t.

Because the horses have no voice, for the horses,

Rob Pliskin

Join him. Go to your school, place of work or federal building. Ask for a permit to have a silent vigil.

Stand with a lantern or candle as a beacon to guide those in power to the truth… as a beacon to guide those loosing their freedom to safety… as a beacon of peaceful resolution.

Rob made these flyers to hand to people. Use them as a template if you like.

Tuscarora Round up

This gather starts on friday.

http://www.examiner.com/x-45566-Horse-Examiner~y2010m7d5-Unseen-desert-round-up-to-begin-in-three-days

I have been asked who the contact person is for observation.

Heather Emmons 775-861-6594

Tuscarora Field Office manager

David Overcast

775-753-0320

Tell him you want public observers to be allowed in more than two days at the end of the gather. We want observers allowed in the first week.

Then inquire as to when foaling season ends in Tuscarora.

I have left messages for both of these people and have not gotten a call back.

New Report

Here it is… NO MORE.

NO MORE stealing from taxpayers. NO MORE using MY public land to profit a select few. NO MORE empty excuses based on NOTHING to remove MY horses from MY land.

Mustang Conspiracy

My Country

This youtube is just random shots. I took all but the one of me, Elyse Gardner took that one.

I love my country.

I was raised in a family filled with service to country. A grandfather that served in two World Wars. Uncles in various branches of military and a father and uncle that were police officers. Being an American really meant something to me growing up.

As we get older the recognition of the fragile reality of our world and the human vulnerabilities of our idols begins to shape who we become.

“No man left behind” became a childhood concept that stood in contrast to the things I witnessed…

But I still believe in my country.

I still believe we will find a way to protect our wild places.

I still believe we can rise to the economic hardships and not loose sight of human rights and environmental issues.

I still believe in my country.

Yet in 4 short days the gather will begin in Owyhee.

In 4 short days we will have babies just days old run by helicopter miles and miles over the desert floor. They will struggle to keep up with their families as they flee from the threat from above into traps… never to be free… and those will be the lucky ones. How many will perish in flight? How many will perish after the gather? We will never know…

The public will not be allowed to witness. We will not be allowed in until the 22nd of July.

Please write your Congressman and media… this is not acceptable. Not with this track record…

All of this will be done as public land is used to create private profit off the backs of the American taxpayer. While you have your Congressional rep on the phone let them know we want a full cost recovery system on our land… no more tenants that can’t operate responsibly. Particularly now, as so many Americans struggle to find work and make ends meet, a system that bleeds more from the taxpayer can not continue.

Just a thought for tonight…

… celebrate the birth of our nation by creating a place of peace, not of war. The sounds of war will fill the air and terrorize both domestic animals and wildlife. Human PTSD survivors will have a hard time, too.

Sing to your dog… play Mozart in your barn…

Happy Birthday, America. I still believe in you.

Calico Adoption Upcoming

The BLM is listing horses for the upcoming Internet adoption.

https://www.blm.gov/adoptahorse/onlinegallery.php

Only a few of the horses brought to Palomino Valley are listed.

But it’s time to get this effort organized.

CalicoHorses@gmail.com

To make a pledge for the core group of old stallions.

If you are an adopter, or foster for an adopter, get your applications into the BLM and email me that you have done so. If you are a sponsor email me and I will give you info on how to submit your pledge.

We have found a place for the old boys to stay together as a bachelor band and can place some of the others into safe places to be trained toward permanent homes.

Include your phone number when you email me and I will call you this weekend… I need to get back on the road so I have a couple of days to pull this together. Please be patient waiting for a response… I am working on several projects.

Boyz at the pile

Here we go again

Here we go again.

Nothing unexpected coming in. Nothing reassuring at all.

Same old, same old.

July is here and the claim that “foaling season” is over and running horses for miles is now “safe” is back in the dialogue.

We start in Owyhee in just days.

June 25 BLM Indian Lakes update: Mares are still foaling, but births are fewer and intermittent.

So I guess only mares in holding facilities are still giving birth. I guess running a foal born on July 1 at one week old for miles and miles in the desert is “safe.”

Oh yeah… and they will keep the public away until about the third week of July so if anything happens they can hide it. Close public land so no cameras can catch any of the horror or “civilians” find dead babies in the desert sun. I guess if we don’t see it somehow it hasn’t happened.

Sheldon 2006. They tried to deny what happened there. USFWS… but same contractor.

AWHPC Sheldon 2006 dead foal

We saw young horses die this winter from the effects of the helicopter gather. Those youngsters were about 8 months old… some of these babies will be less than 8 days old.

8 month old dying of hoof slough from the effects of being run miles by a Cattoor helicopter

Do you think we will ever get a schedule of proposed areas the BLM will close? When do you think such a schedule will arrive? If you are on public land and don’t know about the closures (because they didn’t post them) will you be arrested? Will lease holders be banned from the land or just the general public?

Write to Bolstad, Abbey and your Congressperson and tell them you demand observers be allowed from day one. To allow the BLM to operate without observers is not acceptable.
